BIO
KIM
CASTELLANO

My book is a raw account of finding my husband after he committed suicide.

THE AUTHOR

By profession, I am not an author; I was an administrative assistant to several CEOs and one Lord in the House of Lords in Great Britain for eighteen years. I believed I was leading an ordinary life until my husband decided to end his. Grief and the grieving process is the most painful experience anyone can endure. I know first-hand the shock of loss and while I am not a professional grief counselor, I am confident that my book will help widows, widowers and others, to navigate through the initial grief and the lengthy mourning process. Currently, I am in a weekly writer’s workshop with eight others and work part time with the elderly. I was born and raised in New City, New York. I spent my twenties living in New York City which is where I met my husband Jim. In 1995, we got married and bought our home, where I currently live in Westchester, New York, with my two daughters, Alexandra and Samantha and my West Highland Terrier, Louie.

Kim Castellano’s perfect little world changed on a spring day, March 30, 2006. She came home from grocery shopping and found her husband dead; he’d taken his own life.

Suddenly a single mother of two young girls, Kim was overwhelmed not just with the changes that this new life brought, but the new world into which she’d been thrust: that of a young widow. She’s learned many things in the ten years since, through trial and error and her own tough grit. Now she’s written a book to help others who find themselves in the same position so they don’t have to guess and stumble as she did.

Inside, you’ll learn not just Kim’s personal story, but also things that no one tells you, such as:

What to expect—from neighbors, family, the funeral parlor and the bank—in the days after the death. What a “food train” is and how to handle it. Ways to help children through the grieving process. The importance of wills and life insurance, even when you’re young. The best ways to help a new widow/widower, and things to avoid doing and saying. How to maintain your emotional and physical health. How to find a bereavement group. Tips to help you move forward, a day at a time and much more.

Part memoir, part guidebook, A Walk In a Widow’s Shoes will help those dealing with the loss of their spouse or partner, and give those close to them special insight into the best ways to help.

‘"It’s required reading for anyone who is in the throes of loss and needs a guide to help them through."
